My Civic Engagment

             Indonesia's future is determined by the young people of this nation. Indonesian youth are the future of this nation. Therefore, I am with another young man who is a very important factor relied upon by Indonesia in realizing the ideals of the nation and defend the sovereignty of this nation.

            My role as citizens is to strengthen the cultivation of Pancasila values ​​in everyday life. Because this time the people of Indonesia have started to leave and even forget the values ​​of Pancasila. Society seems to have no longer have the spirit of nationalism which is owned by youth in ancient times. Youth today have forgotten their duties as future development relay holder. There are many things that trigger fade of national spirit inherited from its predecessor one of which is the saturation of the youth in view of the national discourse that declared political elite in Indonesia. Another cause is the lack of confidence of the elderly to the younger group to organize the transfer of knowledge, experience and authority.

            In addition to the more stringent of globalization that led to imitation westernized lifestyle is one of the many effects that are now attacking Indonesia, lifestyle, drinking, taking drugs and free sex younger regarded as something that is usually done by the youth of today. This kind of lifestyle that can damage the younger generation. Most students spend more time with activities that are less obvious benefits, the forum discussion about on matters relating to the state was never interested by the students of the opposite places of entertainment even liked by students. When the younger generation becomes damaged, then this nation will be damaged and the strength of our country will be colonized again by another nation. This time seen by the wealth of many nations Indonesia organized by other countries in Indonesia added to the debt of other countries more and more alone.

            Therefore, I as a citizen as well as young people who have an important role for the future of the nation should be able to cope with the developments taking place at this time, I should be able to take the positive side of globalization is the case today, and leave the downside. I also have to have the spirit of young people who can build an independent state of Indonesia, united and peaceful, even though ethnic culture, race and religion. Having a sense of patriotism and self-sacrifice for the people of Indonesia, and uphold the values ​​of nationalism and brotherhood among all the people of Indonesia so that no dispute or conflict between the Indonesian nation. As a student I also have to think rationally, democratic, and very important to solve all the existing problems. I have to have a sense of love and are proud to be a citizen of Indonesia, was not marked by protests led to anarchy and the destruction of infrastructure or things that are damaging the image of Indonesia, but it turns out the things that are positive and real.

            Concern and nationalism nor can I show with my seriousness in studying in college. I should be able to hone their capabilities and specialization in the field of science that I learned in college, so it will be beneficial to my self, society and nation. But all that was not enough, I as citizens and students not only have to college and pursue my own academic values ​​but also to be close to people and cares about the interests of the people.

            Civic engagement is the participation of private actors in the pubic sphere, conducted through direct and indirect interactions of civil society organizations and citizens-at-large with government, multilateral institutions and business establishments to influence decision making or pursue common goals.

            Civic engagement is defined as an act or a tendency to identify community problems at the local, regional, national, and global and respond through actions such as volunteerism, political activity, and community participation. I as a student and young citizens need to develop the ability to actively participate in identifying and solving various problems in society.

            Civic engagement of as students today are often characterized by the movement of an action to take to the streets. In the movement, awareness of the problem and the political situation must rely on democratic idealism, which criticized the ruling policy role or not. In accordance with the aspirations of the people to provide solutions. It is an act of devotion as the nation's consciousness issues and political polemics. So devotion not only taught as a teacher, but also engage in activities that are beneficial to the interests clearly part of the dedication of the people.

            As a students,  naturally i has a role as a controller (control agent) travel dynamics of the nation. I have to participate in supervising role to ensure the political dynamics that lead toward fully for the benefit of the people.

            In carrying out the functions or tasks such as building public policy, often disagree. Therefore, the public policy debate not easily be passed by the legislature, especially policies that are not pro with the community. In reality, public policy or decisions are not pro with people who appear in public life and must be implemented. The policy was perceived detrimental and unfair to the public. I as part of the public also feel the injustice resulting from the implementation of common policies. Therefore, I feel the need to participate in order to influence government policy-making and implementation of decisions and public policy.
            In the reform era is now a democratic system can accommodate all forms of transparency and disclosure of information to the public. Civic engagement that I can do as citizens and especially students, including an audience with the government to sit at the same table to discuss policies that are not pro-people and pro-people, as well as overseeing the implementation of policies through media monitoring. In addition, this technology is able to mobilize the civil society movement. Students can design an online petition and spread throughout society. The student movement is not exclusively limited to only students, but also involves public participation.

            Not that took to the streets should be abolished. However, the movement took to the streets is important to draw the attention of governments to the demands of the students heard. But as an intellectual currents, the discussion should be prioritized.

            Diplomacy has its advantages. When students and government sit down together to discuss the policy, students can persuade the government to accommodate the interests of society. Diplomacy can be far more effective in conveying the aspirations of society brought by students. By speaking directly to policy makers, less distortion and missunderstanding of the message be conveyed students.
